Murina cyclotis
Habitat
Humid forest
Size
Head and body 8–8.9cm
Weight
9–12g
The round-eared tube-nosed bat has short tubular nostrils, rounded ears, small eyes and a fringe of hairs on the upper lip. Its semi-transparent wings are broad, the feet are hairy and the dorsal coat may be reddish-brown or greyer. Adults weigh about 9–12 g and measure 8–8.9 cm from head to body (Animal Diversity Web).
It is a forest bat of humid South and Southeast Asia, flying slowly through cluttered vegetation to glean arthropods. Taxonomic revision has separated several former populations, including the peninsular tube-nosed bat, so older broad-range records require care. Roosts are small and concealed rather than large cave colonies (Animal Diversity Web; specialist Murina studies). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
