Murina walstoni

Basic stats

Habitat

Lowland evergreen forest

Range

Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam

Walston's tube-nosed bat is a small Murina with projecting tubular nostrils, broad wings and contrasting dorsal and ventral fur. It is similar to several cyclotis-type tube-nosed bats, and identification rests on skull and tooth characters together with external measurements (Mammal Diversity Database; specialist Murina revision).

Verified records come from Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, chiefly in lowland evergreen forest. Thai museum photographs document specimens from Loei Province. It forages within cluttered vegetation for small arthropods, while day roosts and reproduction remain inadequately documented and are not inferred from related Murina (Mammal Images Library; regional bat studies). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
