Arielulus circumdatus
Habitat
Hill and montane forest
Range
Himalaya through southern China and northern mainland Southeast Asia
The bronze sprite is a dark forest vespertilionid whose blackish fur carries bronze or golden highlights. Pale-edged ears and contrasting hair tips contribute to its distinctive appearance. It belongs to Arielulus, a genus separated from pipistrelles by cranial, dental and genetic traits (Mammal Diversity Database; regional bat field guide).
Its range extends from the eastern Himalaya through southern China into northern mainland Southeast Asia, including Thailand. It is associated with hill and montane forest and hunts flying insects along gaps and edges. Small sample sizes leave roosting and reproduction poorly known (regional bat surveys; Mammal Diversity Database). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
