Basic stats

Habitat

Dry and moist forest, woodland and buildings

Range

South Asia through mainland Southeast Asia

Tickell's false serotine is a large, robust Hesperoptenus with a broad muzzle, short ears and brown to golden-brown fur. It is substantially larger than Blanford's false serotine. Dentition, skull form and a fleshy pad on the thumb help confirm identification (Mammal Diversity Database; regional bat field guide).

Its range extends from South Asia through Myanmar, Thailand and neighbouring mainland Southeast Asia. It uses dry and moist forest, woodland and sometimes buildings, flying in relatively open space to catch insects. Day roosts may occur in trees or structures, usually in small groups (regional bat field guide; species records). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
