Basic stats

Habitat

Lowland forest and streams

Range

Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam

The thick-thumbed myotis is a small mouse-eared bat distinguished by fleshy pads at the bases of the thumbs and feet. It has brown fur, relatively short ears and wings suited to manoeuvring near vegetation. The scientific name Myotis rosseti is retained by current mammal taxonomy (Mammal Diversity Database; regional bat field guide).

Its known range lies in mainland Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. Records come from lowland forest and stream corridors, where it hunts small flying insects. Roost and reproductive information are limited, and the unusual pads should not be confused with those of Glischropus, which belongs to another lineage (regional bat studies). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
