Basic stats

Habitat

Lowland and hill rainforest

Range

Peninsular Thailand and Malaysia and Borneo

The peninsular tube-nosed bat is a medium-small Murina once treated as a subspecies of the round-eared tube-nosed bat. Cranial and dental differences, including a broader rostrum and more massive teeth, support its recognition as a separate species. This revision makes many older M. cyclotis records from the peninsula uncertain (specialist taxonomic literature; Mammal Diversity Database).

It occurs in peninsular Thailand and Malaysia and on Borneo, where it is associated with lowland and hill rainforest. Broad wings support slow flight within dense vegetation, and insects are gleaned from foliage or caught in short aerial pursuits. Species-specific roosting and reproduction remain poorly known (Peninsular Malaysia bat checklist; regional field guide). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
