Habitat

Forest, woodland and buildings

Range

South Asia through mainland Southeast Asia

The Oriental serotine is a sturdy, broad-winged vespertilionid with dark brown fur and a robust muzzle. Current taxonomy places it in Cnephaeus pachyomus, whereas much older literature used Eptesicus pachyomus or included populations under other serotine names. This instability requires careful matching of records (Batnames; Mammal Diversity Database).

It ranges from South Asia into mainland Southeast Asia and uses forest, woodland and sometimes buildings as roosting or foraging habitat. It captures flying insects in open spaces and along vegetation edges. Species-specific Thai life-history data remain sparse, so measurements from differently defined historical taxa are omitted (regional taxonomic literature). No national category is stated because it is not listed under this name in Thailand Red Data 2025.
