Alionoctula coromandra
Habitat
Forest edge, farmland, villages and buildings
Range
South Asia into mainland Southeast Asia
The Indian pipistrelle is a small brown aerial insectivore recently transferred from Pipistrellus to Alionoctula following phylogenetic reassessment of eastern pipistrelles. External similarity to related species means tooth, skull, call and genetic evidence may be required for reliable identification (Batnames; specialist taxonomic reassessment).
It ranges across South Asia into mainland Southeast Asia and uses forest edge, farmland, villages and buildings. Small groups shelter in crevices and emerge early to catch tiny flying insects. Older records under Pipistrellus coromandra remain relevant when their identity is secure (regional bat literature). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
