Range

Mainland and island Southeast Asia

The Javan pipistrelle is a small brown bat now assigned to Alionoctula rather than Pipistrellus. Recent work recognizes it as distinct within the eastern pipistrelle radiation, although older treatments sometimes merged similar taxa. Identification should therefore follow current dental, acoustic and genetic evidence (Batnames; specialist taxonomic reassessment).

It is widespread in mainland and island Southeast Asia and uses forest edge, farmland and settlements, often roosting in buildings or tree crevices. It hunts small flying insects in agile evening flight. Because historical name use was inconsistent, detailed measurements are omitted unless tied to verified specimens (regional bat studies). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
