Basic stats

Habitat

Lowland rainforest

Range

Peninsular Thailand and Malaysia to Sumatra and Borneo

Peters's trumpet-eared bat is a small forest vespertilionid with long funnel-shaped ears, woolly fur and distinctive golden-tipped guard hairs. It was historically placed in Kerivoula but is now retained in Phoniscus on dental and cranial characters (Mammal Diversity Database; regional bat field guide).

Its Sundaic range extends from peninsular Thailand and Malaysia to Sumatra and Borneo. It flies slowly within lowland rainforest and is generally detected by understorey harp traps, suggesting close association with cluttered vegetation. It takes small arthropods, while roosting and reproductive ecology remain poorly known (regional forest-bat studies). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
