Aselliscus stoliczkanus
Habitat
Limestone caves and forest
Range
South China through mainland Southeast Asia
Stoliczka's trident roundleaf bat is a small insectivorous bat whose noseleaf bears three pointed projections, giving the trident-bat name. It belongs to Aselliscus rather than Hipposideros, although both are members of the roundleaf-bat family. Skull, noseleaf and echolocation characters distinguish it from recently separated relatives (Mammal Diversity Database; specialist taxonomic revision).
It ranges from southern China through mainland Southeast Asia and is associated especially with limestone caves and surrounding forest. Colonies roost in dark cave chambers and emerge to take flying insects close to vegetation. Regional genetic studies indicate geographic structure, so older broadly assigned records require care (specialist Aselliscus studies; regional bat surveys). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
