Basic stats

Habitat

Lowland forest

Range

Far southern Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia and northern Borneo

Kingston's roundleaf bat is a newly described small Hipposideros named in 2023 for bat conservationist Tigga Kingston. Mitochondrial data place it close to the bicolored and Kunz's roundleaf bats, while noseleaf and baculum details distinguish it from the slightly larger Myanmar species H. einnaythu (original taxonomic description; Mammal Diversity Database).

Confirmed records come from far southern Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah in northern Borneo, with a wider Bornean range possible. Its recent recognition means older specimens may remain under other names and natural history is still poorly documented. It is a forest insectivore using nasal echolocation, but unsupported life-history details are omitted (original taxonomic description). It is Nationally Data Deficient (Thailand Red Data 2025).
