Range

South Asia through Southeast Asia to northern Australia

The common dusky roundleaf bat is a small dark-brown Hipposideros with a rounded noseleaf and broad ears lacking a tragus. Its very broad Old World range and morphological variation have produced a complicated taxonomic history, with some regional populations now treated separately (Mammal Diversity Database; specialist hipposiderid taxonomy).

It roosts in caves, mines and other sheltered sites and forages for small insects in nearby forest and edge habitat. The species ranges from South Asia through Southeast Asia to northern Australia, but records should be assessed in light of regional taxonomic revisions. Thai-specific reproduction and population data remain limited (Mammal Diversity Database; regional bat field guides). No national category is stated because it is not listed under this name in Thailand Red Data 2025.
