Hipposideros grandis
Habitat
Caves and forest
Range
Myanmar and Thailand through Indochina to Peninsular Malaysia
The grand roundleaf bat is a large member of Hipposideros whose scientific name, H. grandis, has at times been treated within or confused with other large roundleaf bats. Current mammal taxonomy recognizes it as a distinct species. Reliable identification uses noseleaf, skull and acoustic features rather than common name or size alone (Mammal Diversity Database; regional taxonomic literature).
Its range extends from Myanmar and Thailand through Indochina to Peninsular Malaysia. It roosts in caves and forages for insects in surrounding forest, but detailed species-specific breeding, diet and population information remains limited because of past taxonomic uncertainty. Those fields are therefore not filled with data from related species (Mammal Diversity Database; regional bat surveys). It is Nationally Data Deficient (Thailand Red Data 2025).
