Glischropus tylopus
Diet
Flying insects
Habitat
Forest with bamboo and other concealed roosts
Range
Mainland and Sundaic Southeast Asia to the western Philippines
The common thick-thumbed bat is a tiny pipistrelle-like species distinguished by conspicuous fleshy pads at the bases of the thumbs and on the soles. It has shaggy dark-brown upper fur and paler underparts. Tooth position and thumb pads separate Glischropus from Pipistrellus (specialist genus revision; regional bat field guide).
It ranges from mainland Southeast Asia through the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo to the western Philippines. Day roosts occur in hollow bamboo, rock crevices and folded banana leaves; at night it catches small flying insects. Taxonomic revision has removed some former populations into other species (specialist Glischropus studies). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
