Basic stats

Habitat

Lowland evergreen and hill forest

Range

Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam

The Kachin woolly bat is a relatively large Kerivoula described in 2004 from Myanmar. It has long woolly fur, funnel-shaped ears and broad wings adapted to slow flight within vegetation. Cranial and dental proportions distinguish it from other Southeast Asian woolly bats (original species description; Mammal Diversity Database).

Its verified range now includes Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. It is associated with lowland evergreen and hill forest and is typically detected in understorey harp traps. Roosting and reproduction are still poorly known, reflecting the species' recent description and secretive forest habits (original species description; regional surveys). It is Nationally Near Threatened (Thailand Red Data 2025).
