Hypsugo pulveratus
Habitat
Montane forest, caves and buildings
Range
Southern China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam
The Chinese pipistrelle is a small dark vespertilionid currently placed in Hypsugo. Its dentition, skull and genetic relationships distinguish it from true Pipistrellus, although older regional literature often used that genus. The species has a relatively high-elevation Asian distribution (specialist Myanmar bat review; Mammal Diversity Database).
It occurs from southern China through Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, mainly in montane forest. Records include caves and buildings as day shelters, while individuals hunt small aerial insects along edges and above streams. Species-specific reproduction remains poorly documented (specialist regional review; bat survey literature). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
