Callosciurus concolor
Diet
Fruit, seeds and plant material
Habitat
Forest and wooded habitats
Range
Southern Thailand and the Malay Peninsula
The southern gray-bellied squirrel is a tree squirrel of the Callosciurus caniceps complex. Current taxonomy recognizes Callosciurus concolor for southern populations formerly treated as a subspecies, so older biological accounts under the broader grey-bellied squirrel name require geographic checking (Mammal Diversity Database; specialist squirrel taxonomy).
It occurs in southern Thailand and the Malay Peninsula in forest and other wooded habitats. Like related Callosciurus it is diurnal and arboreal and feeds principally on fruit, seeds and other plant material, but detailed species-specific ecological studies are sparse. No national category is stated because it is not listed under this name in Thailand Red Data 2025.
