Basic stats

Habitat

Mountain forest, dense valleys and limestone caves

Range

Himalaya through southern China and mainland Southeast Asia to Peninsular Malaysia

Pearson's horseshoe bat is a medium-sized Rhinolophus identified by the structure of its broad noseleaf, ears, skull and echolocation call. Its distribution runs from northern India, Nepal and Bhutan through Myanmar, southern China, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam to Peninsular Malaysia (Mammal Diversity Database).

It is especially associated with mountainous forest, dense valleys and limestone caves, where colonies roost by day before emerging to hunt flying insects. The species' broad geographic span may contain substantial acoustic and genetic variation, so measurements from one region are not presented as universal (species-level mitochondrial study; Mammal Diversity Database). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
