Habitat

Lowland forest and cave roosts

Range

Southern Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia

Robinson's horseshoe bat is a small Rhinolophus of the Thai-Malay Peninsula. It has the family's characteristic horseshoe-shaped noseleaf, which focuses constant-frequency echolocation calls emitted through the nostrils. Skull, noseleaf and acoustic characters are needed to distinguish it from similar small regional horseshoe bats (Mammal Diversity Database; regional bat taxonomy).

Its verified range centres on southern Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia, where records are associated with lowland forest and cave roosts. Species-specific natural-history information remains limited, so diet details beyond insectivory and unverified reproductive values are omitted. Local cave disturbance and forest loss can affect roosting and foraging habitat (Mammal Diversity Database; Thailand mammal status assessment). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
