Rhinolophus thomasi

Basic stats

Range

Southern China, eastern Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam

Size

Forearm about 4.11–4.61cm

Thomas's horseshoe bat is a small-to-medium Rhinolophus in the rouxii species group. A Vietnamese sample had forearms of about 4.11–4.61 cm. Genetic work supports its distinctness from the Chinese rufous horseshoe bat despite earlier suggestions that the two might be conspecific (specialist morphological and phylogenetic studies; Batnames).

The species ranges through southern China, eastern Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. It roosts in sheltered sites and hunts flying insects using constant-frequency calls focused by its noseleaf, but detailed species-level ecology remains sparse. Measurements and natural history from related rouxii-group bats are therefore not substituted (Mammal Diversity Database; specialist taxonomy). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
