Range

Myanmar and Thailand through Indochina to Peninsular Malaysia

The Malayan horseshoe bat is a small Rhinolophus whose noseleaf and skull proportions distinguish it from other members of the pusillus species group. It produces high, constant-frequency echolocation calls through the nostrils while the surrounding horseshoe-shaped leaf helps shape the beam (Mammal Diversity Database; regional taxonomic studies).

It ranges from Myanmar and Thailand through Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam to Peninsular Malaysia. Thai records are widespread from northern and western provinces into the peninsula. It roosts in caves and uses nearby forest and edges to hunt nocturnal insects; robust species-specific reproduction data remain limited (Thai cave-fauna checklist; regional bat field guide). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
