Tupaia minor
Diet
Invertebrates and fruit
Habitat
Lowland tropical rainforest
Range
Peninsular Thailand and Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and nearby islands
The lesser treeshrew is a very small, slender member of Tupaia with a pointed snout and long tail. It is more arboreal than many treeshrews, moving rapidly along branches and vines in the lower and middle forest levels. Its Sundaic range includes peninsular Thailand and Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and nearby islands (Animal Diversity Web; Mammal Diversity Database).
It inhabits lowland tropical rainforest and feeds on a varied mixture of invertebrates, including insects and worms, and fruit. By eating figs and other fleshy fruit it may disperse seeds. Species-specific home-range information is limited, although observations show solitary foraging and use of branch networks rather than sustained ground travel (Animal Diversity Web). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
