Crocidura attenuata
Habitat
Lowland and montane rainforest, bamboo, scrub, grassland and secondary forest
Range
South and East Asia through mainland Southeast Asia
The Asian gray white-toothed shrew is a small insectivorous mammal with grey-brown fur, an elongated pointed snout and the unpigmented tooth enamel characteristic of Crocidura. Its broad Asian distribution and close resemblance to related shrews make verified specimen identification important; genetic studies have refined several regional records (Mammal Diversity Database; specialist Crocidura study).
It occupies an unusually wide set of habitats, including lowland and montane rainforest, bamboo forest, scrub, herbaceous cover and secondary forest beside streams and rivers. Species-level reproductive and dietary measurements suitable for a Thai account are sparse, so generalized shrew values are omitted (IUCN species account; regional taxonomic review). It is Nationally Data Deficient (Thailand Red Data 2025).
