Basic stats

Range

Southern Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia

Size

Forearm averaging about 4.29cm

Kunz's roundleaf bat is a small member of the Hipposideros bicolor group described in 2018. It has brown to orange upper fur and yellow-brown to golden underparts; forearm length averages about 4.29 cm. Noseleaf details, genetics and an average call frequency near 143 kHz distinguish it from close relatives (original species description).

The species is known from Peninsular Malaysia and the southern tip of Thailand, where cave surveys record it from several peninsula provinces. It was formerly confused with H. bicolor, so older records require re-examination. Its detailed diet and reproduction remain insufficiently documented and are omitted (original species description; Thai cave-fauna checklist). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
