Rhinolophus lepidus
Habitat
Caves and forest
Range
South Asia through mainland Southeast Asia
Blyth's horseshoe bat is a small insectivorous bat in the diverse Rhinolophus lepidus complex. It has the characteristic horseshoe-shaped noseleaf used to focus echolocation calls, while details of the lancet, sella, skull and call frequency support identification. Taxonomic boundaries within the complex have varied among studies (Mammal Diversity Database; regional bat taxonomy).
Its range extends from South Asia into mainland Southeast Asia, with Thai cave records from the north and peninsula. It roosts in caves and forages in forest, taking flying insects detected through constant-frequency echolocation. Because several closely related forms resemble one another, locality and acoustic or genetic evidence improve identifications (Thai cave-fauna checklist; regional taxonomic studies). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
