Basic stats

Diet

Flying insects

Habitat

Forest, caves and other sheltered roosts

Range

South and Southeast Asia

The small long-fingered bat is a compact Miniopterus with the genus's characteristic elongated third finger and long, narrow wings. Dark brown fur and overlapping measurements make it difficult to separate from related bent-winged bats without skull, dental or genetic evidence (Mammal Diversity Database; specialist Miniopterus studies).

It ranges across South and Southeast Asia and uses caves, culverts, rock crevices and sometimes tree hollows. Colonies emerge after dusk to catch flying insects over forest and disturbed habitats; reported roosts may contain hundreds of bats. Species limits have changed, so older records need careful review (IUCN species assessment). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
