Range

South and Southeast Asia to New Guinea

The large long-fingered bat is a robust Miniopterus with long narrow wings and an elongated third finger. It is larger than several co-occurring bent-winged bats, but reliable identification also uses skull, tooth and genetic characters because external measurements overlap (Mammal Diversity Database; regional bat field guide).

Its range runs from South and Southeast Asia toward New Guinea. Colonies use caves and other underground spaces, emerging to catch flying insects above forest gaps, rivers and open landscapes. Some roosts hold mixed Miniopterus species, increasing the need for specimen-based records (regional cave-bat studies). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
