Endemic to northern Thailand

The Thailand horseshoe bat is a large Rhinolophus described in 2009 from northern Thailand. It was separated from the similar Dobson's horseshoe bat because Thai specimens differed in external measurements, skull form and chromosome arrangement. Current sources treat it as a distinct species in the pearsonii group (original taxonomic description; IUCN species assessment).

It is endemic to northern Thailand, making it one of the country's most geographically restricted named bats. The species is associated with forest and cave roosts, but its feeding ecology, reproduction and population size remain poorly documented. Values from R. yunanensis are not transferred because the split was based on substantive differences (IUCN species assessment; Mammal Diversity Database). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
