Hapalomys delacouri
Habitat
Montane subtropical or tropical dry forest, probably associated with bamboo
Range
Southern China, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam
The lesser marmoset rat, also called Delacour's marmoset rat, is an arboreal murid. It has been collected only infrequently and appears to have a patchy distribution, probably tied to specialised habitat such as bamboo. Records extend across southern China, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, including a modern Thai specimen and older fossil material from north-eastern Thailand (Mammal Species of the World; taxonomic study).
The species inhabits montane subtropical or tropical dry forest. Its sparse specimen record and uncertain geographic limits make detailed statements about measurements, food and reproduction unreliable, so those fields are omitted. The Mammal Diversity Database recognizes it as a living wild species in Hapalomys and also lists Delacour's marmoset rat as an English name (Mammal Diversity Database; Wikipedia, general species account).
