Range

Cambodia, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam

The Langbian tree rat is a medium-sized arboreal murid and is less brightly coloured than other members of Chiromyscus. It was originally described as a form of Rattus cremoriventer, but molecular and morphological work moved it from Niviventer into Chiromyscus. Other English names include Langbian masked tree rat and Indochinese arboreal Niviventer (Mammal Diversity Database; specialist taxonomic treatment).

The Mammal Diversity Database records the species from Cambodia, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. The type came from the Langbian Peaks of southern Vietnam at 1,676–1,981 m. Because the opened specialist material supplies taxonomy and distribution rather than firm species-wide measurements, food or breeding data, those fields are omitted (Mammal Diversity Database).
