Crunomys rajah
Range
Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo
The Rajah Sundaic spiny rat is a murid in the tribe Rattini. It was long placed in Maxomys, giving rise to the alternative names Rajah Sundaic maxomys and Rajah spiny rat, but a 2025 systematic revision moved the species to Crunomys. Its original scientific description was based on material from northern Borneo (Mammal Diversity Database).
The current specialist database records the species from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei, covering the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo. The opened specialist sources concentrate on its revised classification and distribution rather than dependable species-wide measurements, diet or breeding biology, so those details are omitted (Mammal Diversity Database; Journal of Mammalogy systematic revision). It is Nationally Vulnerable (Thailand Red Data 2025).
