The Burmese hare is a medium-sized Lepus with long ears, powerful hind legs and a short tail. Its coarse brown-grey upper fur is grizzled for camouflage, while the underside is paler and the tail shows dark and white areas. Regional variation has produced several named forms (Mammal Diversity Database; regional mammal field guide).

It ranges through Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam and favours grassland, scrub, open forest and farmland. Mostly active at dusk and night, it rests in a shallow ground form and feeds on grasses, herbs, shoots and cultivated plants. Young are born furred and mobile rather than helpless in a nest (regional mammal field guide). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
