The stump-tailed macaque is a shaggy dark-brown monkey with a nearly hairless red face and a very short bare tail. Infants are born pale and darken with age; adults of both sexes often become bald over the crown. Males are larger than females, while adults overall weigh 7.5–10.2 kg and measure 48.5–65 cm (Animal Diversity Web).
It is principally terrestrial and inhabits wet evergreen forest from South Asia through mainland Southeast Asia, avoiding dry forest. Troops forage by day and return to trees to sleep. It is Nationally Endangered (Thailand Red Data 2025).
