Presbytis siamensis
Range
Southern Myanmar and Thailand through Peninsular Malaysia to parts of Sumatra and nearby islands
The pale-thighed langur is a Southeast Asian leaf monkey in the genus Presbytis, also called the white-thighed surili. Current primate taxonomy recognizes several geographically separated subspecies. The species occurs from southern Myanmar and Thailand through Peninsular Malaysia to parts of Sumatra and nearby islands (Mammal Diversity Database; IUCN Asian langur review).
Its common name refers to the conspicuously pale fur on the thighs contrasting with darker body pelage. It is an arboreal forest primate, but dependable species-level measurements and detailed natural-history data remain limited; traits reported only for other Presbytis species are therefore not generalized here. Taxonomic and range work identifies habitat loss and hunting as important concerns (IUCN Asian langur review). It is Nationally Endangered (Thailand Red Data 2025).
