Range

North-eastern India through Myanmar and Thailand to Laos and Vietnam

Ratanaworabhan's tailless fruit bat is a medium-sized Megaerops first described from northern Thailand in 1983. Like other members of its genus it lacks an external tail and has a relatively short muzzle, large eyes and fruit-crushing cheek teeth. It is larger than several other small Indo-Malayan fruit bats (original species description; Mammal Diversity Database).

Verified records extend from north-eastern India through Myanmar and Thailand to Laos and Vietnam, with captures in hilly forest and bushy terrain. Published natural-history information remains sparse, so detailed diet, reproduction and measurements are not inferred from other Megaerops species. The available evidence supports a forest-associated fruit bat with a scattered documented range (species description and regional survey records). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
