Naemorhedus evansi
Diet
Grasses, leaves and shoots
Habitat
Rocky forested hills and cliffs
Range
Myanmar and adjacent western Thailand
The Burmese goral is a compact goat-antelope with a grizzled brown coat, pale throat patch, dark dorsal stripe and short backward-curving horns in both sexes. Current mammal taxonomy recognizes Naemorhedus evansi separately, although older works often placed it within the Chinese goral N. griseus (Mammal Diversity Database; specialist caprine taxonomy).
Its range centres on Myanmar and adjacent western Thailand, where it uses rocky forested hills, steep slopes and cliffs. It browses grasses, leaves and shoots and is most active around dawn and dusk. Hunting and disturbance of small, isolated populations are concerns (specialist goral assessments). No national category is stated because Thailand Red Data 2025 lists N. griseus, not N. evansi.
