Habitat
Lowland evergreen and swamp forest
Range
Myanmar and the Sundaic region
The banded palm civet is a slender viverrid with pale buff fur crossed by dark bands, a pointed muzzle and a long dark tail. Although able to climb, it spends much of its foraging time on or close to the forest floor and rests by day in low tree hollows (specialist species accounts).
It occurs from Myanmar through the Malay Peninsula to Sumatra and Borneo in lowland evergreen and swamp forest. It is nocturnal and solitary, feeding mainly on insects, earthworms and other invertebrates, with frogs, rodents and occasional fruit also taken. Forest conversion is the principal threat (species-level dietary study; IUCN assessment). It is Nationally Endangered (Thailand Red Data 2025).
