Paradoxurus musanga

Basic stats

Range

Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam through Malaysia and Indonesia to East Timor

The southern palm civet is a viverrid recognized as Paradoxurus musanga after genetic and morphological research divided the former Asian palm civet complex. The Mammal Diversity Database treats it as a living wild species and records it from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam through Malaysia and Indonesia to East Timor (Mammal Diversity Database).

Because much older literature used Paradoxurus hermaphroditus for both northern and southern populations, behaviour, measurements and breeding information cannot automatically be assigned to this species. Those fields are therefore omitted until supported by material explicitly identifying Paradoxurus musanga. No national category is stated because it is not listed under this name in Thailand Red Data 2025 (Mammal Diversity Database).
