Range

Bhutan, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand and Vietnam; possibly Bangladesh

The white-footed Indochinese rat is a true rat in the genus Rattus, also known as the Himalayan field rat. It was first described from central Nepal as Mus nitidus and was later transferred to Rattus. The Mammal Diversity Database recognizes it as a living wild species in the tribe Rattini (Mammal Diversity Database; Wikipedia, general species account).

Its native range extends across Bhutan, China, India, Nepal, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, with Bangladesh listed as possible by the specialist database. Introduced populations are reported from Indonesia, Palau and the Philippines. The opened sources did not provide dependable species-level measurements or ecology, so those fields are omitted rather than inferred from other Rattus (Mammal Diversity Database; Wikipedia, general species account).
