The Sundaic arboreal white-bellied rat, also called the dark-tailed tree rat, is a murid in the genus Niviventer. Specialist nomenclature records several older names now treated as synonyms. The species may contain more than one cryptic lineage, so measurements and fine-scale traits from local populations are not presented as universal (ITIS; Wikipedia, general species account).

It lives both in trees and on the ground within primary and secondary forest, but is not reported from open country outside forest. Its range extends from the Thai–Malay Peninsula and Myanmar's Mergui Archipelago through Singapore, Sumatra, Java, Bali and Borneo, including several offshore islands (Wikipedia, general species account). It is Nationally Near Threatened (Thailand Red Data 2025).
