Diet
Small schooling fish, squid and crustaceans
Habitat
Warm-temperate and tropical offshore waters
The striped dolphin is a sleek oceanic species marked by dark bands from the eye to the flipper and anus beneath a blue-grey cape. It has a long beak and falcate dorsal fin and is known for energetic leaps and rapid travel (NOAA Fisheries; specialist cetacean guide).
It occupies warm-temperate and tropical offshore waters worldwide, generally beyond the continental shelf. Groups feed on small schooling fish, squid and crustaceans at varying depths and may contain dozens or hundreds of dolphins. Its pelagic habits make sightings in Thai waters less predictable than coastal dolphins (NOAA Fisheries). It is Nationally Endangered (Thailand Red Data 2025).
