Deep tropical oceanic water

Fraser's dolphin is a stocky oceanic dolphin with a very short beak, small triangular fins and a dark flank stripe running from face toward the tail. Its body shape and small appendages differ from the more slender spinner and striped dolphins (NOAA Fisheries).

It inhabits deep tropical waters worldwide, often near narrow continental shelves and mountainous coasts. Large, tightly packed groups dive to feed on mesopelagic fish, squid and crustaceans, especially at night when prey rises. It often associates with other cetaceans (NOAA Fisheries; specialist cetacean accounts). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
