The bar-backed partridge is a ground-dwelling gamebird with a greyish head, orange throat and finely barred back and underparts. Its range extends from north-eastern India through southern China and mainland Southeast Asia. Pairs or small coveys inhabit evergreen and deciduous forest with dense undergrowth, feeding quietly on seeds, fallen fruit and invertebrates and revealing themselves most often by their repeated whistling calls (Wikipedia, general species account). It is Nationally Near Threatened (Thailand Red Data 2025).
