Size

28–30cm

The Malayan partridge is a short-tailed forest gamebird with a grey face and breast, chestnut crown and finely patterned upperparts. It is restricted to montane forest in the central Malay Peninsula, including southern Thailand. Birds remain on the ground in pairs or small groups, searching leaf litter for seeds, fallen fruit and invertebrates; dense cover and subdued plumage make their loud calls easier to detect than the birds themselves (Wikipedia, general species account). It is Nationally Near Threatened (Thailand Red Data 2025).
