The kalij pheasant is a crested, long-tailed pheasant whose numerous subspecies vary from glossy blue-black to grey in males; females are brown and finely patterned. It ranges from the Himalayan foothills through mainland Southeast Asia in forest and scrub. Usually seen on the ground, it scratches for seeds, shoots, fruit and invertebrates, retreating into cover or flying strongly when flushed (Wikipedia, general species account). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
