Pardofelis marmorata
Habitat
Evergreen and mixed forest, secondary and logged forest, clearings and rocky scrub
Range
Eastern Himalaya through mainland Southeast Asia to Sumatra and Borneo
The marbled cat is a small Asian wild cat with a patterned coat and a long tail. Its paws are partly webbed between the toes and its canine teeth are comparatively long. Although sometimes compared visually with the clouded leopard, specialist taxonomy places it in the separate genus Pardofelis (specialist felid account; Mammal Diversity Database).
It ranges from the eastern Himalaya through Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam to Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo. Records come from evergreen and mixed forest, secondary forest, logged forest, clearings and rocky scrub, from sea level into mountains. It is rarely encountered and much of its natural history remains poorly known (Animal Diversity Web). It is Nationally Critically Endangered (Thailand Red Data 2025).
