Basic stats

Habitat

Caves and mountainous landscapes

Range

Southern China and northern mainland Southeast Asia

La Touche's free-tailed bat is a large, powerful molossid with long wings and a free tail suited to fast flight above the canopy and open terrain. It is currently placed in Tadarida, although older literature has used other generic combinations. Reliable identification depends on skull and external measurements (Mammal Diversity Database; regional bat taxonomy).

Its known range centres on southern China and reaches northern mainland Southeast Asia, including Thailand. Records are associated with caves and mountainous landscapes, but species-specific diet, reproduction and population trend remain poorly documented. General molossid traits are therefore not expanded into unsupported detail (Mammal Diversity Database; regional records). It is Nationally Data Deficient (Thailand Red Data 2025).
