The Chinese crested tern is a pale, black-crested seabird with a yellow bill tipped black. It is extremely localized along the East Asian coast and often associates with greater crested tern colonies on offshore islands. Birds feed on small fish by plunge-diving and place eggs on exposed colony ground, where they can be difficult to distinguish among the larger terns (Wikipedia, general species account). It is Nationally Critically Endangered (Thailand Red Data 2025).
