The black-necked grebe is a small grebe with a black head and neck, red eye and fan of golden ear plumes in breeding plumage. It breeds colonially on shallow lakes and marshes across several continents and often gathers on saline waters outside the nesting season. Birds dive for aquatic invertebrates and small fish, using lobed toes for propulsion, and build floating nests anchored to vegetation (Wikipedia, general species account). It is Nationally Least Concern (Thailand Red Data 2025).
